What’s happening in the grassy field near the sanctuary? Don’t worry. It’s a good thing!
Westchester County is working to improve our shoreline along the Long Island Sound by installing a Living Shoreline to increase the resiliency of our shoreline while also improving habitat for wildlife.
The project was funded partially through our soil and water conservation district and is being fully funded through the County Stormwater Management capital project, BPL40, a Planning Capital funding source.
The project is expected to be complete by September 2025. The native plants soon to be planted will be monitored and managed for 5 years.
Please bear with us during this construction and while Playland’s capital improvements are also happening. In due time, we will have all the construction cleared and we will be able to enjoy a greatly improved waterfront!
