This weekend… –  

NEW DATE: Day of the Living Shoreline

Saturday, November 9
10:00 am – 11:30 pm

Come take a tour of a very cool project occurring, involving the creation of a living reef. We will observe structures, planting sites and sandy substrates. If you’ve been wondering about what’s happening in the field and beach, this is your chance to learn and ask questions!

Program meets at the Visitor Center.

Bamboo Again

Saturday, November 9
1:00 pm – 2:30 pm

We will explore and harvest some bamboo to see how it thrives before the cold of wintertime. We will look at the inside and outside makings of these grasses.

Birding with the Audubon Society

Monday, November 11
8:00 am – 10:0 am

Join Anne Swaim, Executive Director of Saw Mill River Audubon on a venture to observe birds that visit the Sanctuary. Meet near Playland Lake in the back of the main Playland parking lot.  Then, continuing to Edith Read Sanctuary. Please bring binoculars.

Winter Duck Migration Observation

Come witness, through a tripod scope, the behavior and movements of these waterfowl visitors. Please bring binoculars if you have them. Meet at Visitor Center.

 


 

VOLUNTEER WORK PROJECT

November 16
10:00 am – 12:00 pm

Removal of Invasive Vines from Various Shrubs and Trees in the Sanctuary

We will free various trees and shrubs of the climbing crazies. Proper removal techniques will be demonstrated. Please bring work gloves. All other tools will be provided. Meet at Visitor Center.

Remember Fall Shelter Building

It’s here again, a popular program that brings people together by working together to create a structure in less than 2 hours! The kids will love it. Meet at Visitor Center. Dress for the woods!
